The Montfort Academy holds its first annual Chess Tournament

On Saturday June 23rd, eager students gathered in the gym for The Montfort Academy's first annual Chess Tournament, organized by chess advisor and professor of history at Montfort, Dr. Nathan Leibowitz, PhD.  Dr. Leibowitz is well-known in the chess world and has played with famous chess players such as Bobby Fisher.

Students played on timers set to ten minutes each for each player, meaning each game lasted up to twenty minutes.  Students participated in a Swiss Tournament, and every student had the chance to play every other students.  Dr. Leibowitz and chess tournament director David guided the students as they moved from round to round.

Trophies were awarded to those students who placed first, second, and third. Special thanks to Mrs. Marti for taking the photographs.
