Uniform Guidelines
Our uniform provides the students and local communities with an appearance that encourages and represents school identity, school spirit, unity, discipline, as well as a gold standard for an academic and professional look, the origins of which are classic, European, and traditional in origin. It promotes the values inherent in our school’s mission and allows our students to be recognized as members of this special academy. Students must wear their uniform in a respectful manner, mindful that they are seen as representatives of the school and leaders in an academic environment. All uniform items (except shoes) are to be ordered through Liebman’s in New Rochelle, either in person, by telephone, or email. First time customers are especially encouraged to order in person for proper size and fit.
Uniform Information for Boys
Below are the guidelines for the boys dress code in detail. It is important that you and your son read these guidelines carefully and refer back to them as needed.
The Montfort Academy uniform for boys consists of:
1 gray dress pants;
2 a white or light blue, long-sleeved or short-sleeved oxford dress shirt;
3 a Montfort Academy tie (striped for freshmen and sophomores, solid blue for juniors and seniors);
4 a finishing item (navy blazer with crest, navy vest with logo, navy sweater with logo);
5 navy blue or black dress socks;
6 black dress shoes.
A navy blue blazer, with either two or three brass buttons in the front. The Montfort Academy pin and one other small, discreet pin of a religious or patriotic nature may be worn on the lapel. Nothing else may adorn the school blazer.
A white or LIGHT blue, long or short sleeved shirt. Shirts are neatly tucked into the pants. Top shirt buttons are buttoned. The collar may be plain or button-down. If it is button-down, the buttons must be fastened. Lightweight denim, colors besides white or light blue or shirts with any kind of pattern are not acceptable.
A sleeveless navy sweater vest with Montfort Academy emblem. The vest will be required on certain days and optional on others. It is the ONLY sweater that may be worn in the school. No other sweater or vest or sweatshirt or hoodie will be allowed.
A tie: Dark red/navy striped tie for freshmen and sophomores and a solid navy tie for juniors and seniors. Ties are cinched to cover the top button.
Gray pants, in a medium, steel gray. The gray cannot be a light gray or a very dark, charcoal gray. LIEBMAN'S SCHOOL PANTS ARE THE ONLY PANTS THAT ARE ALLOWED TO BE WORN AS PART OF THE SCHOOL UNIFORM.
Additional information about pants:
Pants must come down to the tops of the shoes and not drag on the floor in the back. They must fit properly. They must have belt loops. Pants are secured by a black belt and worn no lower than one inch below the navel. They may be pleated or plain front.
A black belt (no wider than 1 ½: without extra adornment such as metal studs or rivets) is required. It must be leather or leather-look. The buckle may be either silver or gold tone, but simple in style.
Black shoes. Shoes must be shineable, and polished, and have non-scuff soles. Leather slip-ons, loafers, tie oxfords and some black military shoes are acceptable.
Footwear that is not allowed:
Sneakers of any kind (except for gym)
Any footwear with Velcro closures
Suede
High-topped shoes
Any color besides black
Black or navy socks. Socks with very small patters are allowed, as long as the background color is black or navy. White socks are NOT permitted; they are allowed to be worn with the gym uniform only.
The gym uniform consists of the blue Montfort Academy gym T-shirt and matching shorts, to be purchased through the school. White socks are preferred, but not required. Court shoes (e.g. basketball or tennis sneakers) with non-black, non-skid soles must be worn. Running shoes are not allowed. They do not provide adequate support for lateral movement and have caused enormous trouble for the parish maintenance staff.
Blazers, dress shirts, sweater vests, trousers, ties, gym shirts and gym shorts MUST have a label with the student's full name (e.g. John Smith). The label should be placed on the inside collar of the blazer, dress shirt, sweater vest, and gym shirt, on the inside of the trousers and gym shorts, and on the back of the tie. This simple expedient will save much money and anguish.
One of the finishing items (navy blazer with crest or navy vest with logo) must be worn between October 1 and April 30 except during lunch or when a teacher gives students the permission to remove them. The navy blue blazer must be worn to, from, and during church services on Fridays between October 1 and April 30 and at other times announced by the administration. When not in use, it must be stored on the appropriate hanger in room 5.
No article of clothing that is not part of the uniform (e.g. sweater, vest, sweatshirt, hooded sweatshirt, overcoat, raincoat, poncho, hat, etc.) may be worn in school.
