The Montfort Drama Club Announces The Cast For Its 2010 Productions!

Announcing the Cast for the Montfort Drama Club's Presentation of 2010!

Our selections for drama this year will present, in a modern style, the basic pattern of the ancient Greek theater. Each year at the festivals of Dionysus, the Greeks conducted festival competitions for the best dramas. Playwrights wrote three tragedies, intended to teach values like moderation and the acceptance of fate and to "cleanse" the audience of tragic emotion (pathos). For example, Oedipus the King, Oedipus at Colonus, and Antigone by Sophocles were performed one after another as a "trilogy." Yet each set tragic trilogy was followed by a comedy, called a "satyr play." The purpose of the satyr play was to offset the tragic aspects of life by mocking life's serious preoccupations, allowing audience to leave uplifted and ready to cope.
The Lottery is a dark story which should reminds us of Greek tragedy. The Good Doctor, on the other hand, is a series of light-hearted scenes which entertain us with many human foibles and idiosyncrasies.

We are grateful to our Director Mrs. Maureen Kelly for suggesting these excellent works.

Thank you to our auditioning thespians (as you know"Thespis" was considered "the first actor" in Greece). Our first read-through is taking place on Friday, from 3 to 5 pm. You may want to bring an extra snack. Future rehearsals will take place on Mondays from 4:30-6:30pm, Fridays from 3-5pm, and Saturday afternoons from 2:45-5pm. Rehearsal schedule to be announced soon.

The performance is currently scheduled for May 7th and May 8th, and there will be added rehearsals for the final week. Please let us know about any potential conflicts as soon as possible.
